Dalam metode tradisional atau video komposit, yang merupakan cara umum dalam mentransmisikan sinyal video, kedua sinyal ini (bersama data sinkronisasi) dikirim sebagai satu sinyal gabungan.<\/p>\n<p>Sebenarnya, televisi dirancang untuk menampilkan sinyal luminans dan krominans secara terpisah. Jika menggunakan sinyal komposit, sinyal harus dipisahkan terlebih dahulu sebelum bisa ditampilkan. Saat sinyal dikirim dalam bentuk komposit, kedua sinyal ini tumpang-tindih pada rentang frekuensi di atas 2.1 megahertz (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linuxid.net\/istilah\/MHz\/\">MHz<\/a>). Proses pemisahan ini sulit dilakukan dengan sempurna, sehingga sisa-sisa satu sinyal bisa tetap ada dalam sinyal lainnya, menyebabkan gangguan visual.  <\/p>\n<p>Sisa sinyal krominans dalam sinyal luminans bisa menyebabkan efek cross-luminance, yang menghasilkan pola titik-titik (sering disebut sebagai &#8220;dot crawl&#8221;). Sementara itu, sisa sinyal luminans dalam sinyal krominans bisa menciptakan efek &#8220;rainbow&#8221; dalam pola detail yang dikenal sebagai &#8220;cross-color&#8221;.
